2019 Paving Project to begin in Ben Avon

Within the next month or so, Ben Avon will begin its 2019 paving project on the following streets:

  • Hilands Avenue.
  • Monitor Avenue – the entire length including across 65 to the dead end.
  • Forest Avenue – between Church Avenue and Brighton Road.
  • Brighton Road – from the Avalon border, near the mini-mart, down to Park Ave.

Borough council members ask for your patience and understanding with further inconvenience, noise, and mess. It is a short-term price to pay for long-term improvements. The contractor is Mele and Mele. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please call the project manager, Frank Schweinberg at (412) 812-4762.

Emergency responders are aware of this project and will be at your service as usual. In addition Waste Management will be given accommodations so as not to interrupt garbage or recycling schedules.

Please take special care to avoid driving on any newly paved street until all construction signage is removed and the street is officially open for use. To be most durable, fresh pavement must be allowed to cool and thoroughly cure; driving on it before then will cause damage and waste your tax dollars.

It is important to understand that unforeseen problems sometimes upset the best of plans, and we ask in advance for your patience, understanding, and compliance. Thank you so much.

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing preservation work on the Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) bridge over Spruce Run in Ben Avon Borough, Allegheny County, will begin Monday, August 26 weather permitting.

A long-term single-lane restriction in each direction will begin at 9 a.m. Monday morning on the Route 65 bridge located between Laurel Road and Dickson Avenue.  Two 11-foot wide lanes will be maintained for bi-direction traffic on the northbound side of the bridge during the initial phase. Single-lane restrictions will remain in place through early December.

Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Please use caution when driving through the area.  Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Looking for a few good Avonworth Community Park Committee Volunteers

Ben Avon is looking for a few good residents to serve as volunteers with the Avonworth Municipal Authority – the overseeing authority for the Avonworth Community Park which provides a variety of recreational and social amenities to the five communities within the Avonworth district. There are several committee opportunities to be involved with including the Pool committee, Maintenance, Public Relations, Facilities, etc. For more information on the AMA and Park opportunities, visit https://www.avonworthcommunitypark.org/avonworth-municipal-authority.

If you are interested in donating your time and services, please contact the Ben Avon Borough office at benavon@benavon.com or (412) 766-7704.

Avon Park is Open!

Most of the park restoration has been completed and the Park is OPEN to residents. A few things to remain mindful of include:

  1. The grass has been reseeded so please be careful of the netting holding in the grass seeds. Please do your best to steer clear of the netting and the hay until the grass has grown in.
  2. The parking lot is slated to be repaved but there is no definitive timeline. The park is still usable until this takes place.  It should only take a couple of days to pave.
  3. Several other minor repairs are still in the works (including water fountain repair) but will not impede playground usage.

Please stay tuned for more information or contact the boro office with any additional questions, benavon@benavon.com or 412-766-7704.
