Annual Raccoon Rabies Vaccination Baiting Project

As part of the 18th annual raccoon rabies baiting program, employees from the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services (WS) will team up to distribute more than 300,000 baits in all 130 municipalities across Allegheny County, and in select parts of Beaver and Washington Counties, starting on August 5 and concluding on August 9. Please be sure to keep your pets on a leash so they do not eat the bait. For more info: http://www.achd.net/raccoon/

Avon Park is Open!

Most of the park restoration has been completed and the Park is OPEN to residents. A few things to remain mindful of include:

  1. The grass has been reseeded so please be careful of the netting holding in the grass seeds. Please do your best to steer clear of the netting and the hay until the grass has grown in.
  2. The parking lot is slated to be repaved but there is no definitive timeline. The park is still usable until this takes place.  It should only take a couple of days to pave.
  3. Several other minor repairs are still in the works (including water fountain repair) but will not impede playground usage.

Please stay tuned for more information or contact the boro office with any additional questions, benavon@benavon.com or 412-766-7704.

SR-65 – Ohio River Blvd. – Gas line installation will begin on Ohio River Blvd. overnights starting Sunday, June 23rd at 8pm. There will be overnight lane restrictions from 8pm – 5am until further notice. Gas Line work will be taking place along Ohio River Blvd. between the bridge over Spruce Run to Monitor Street causing these overnight lane restrictions.

Know before you dig!

Because even relatively minor excavation activities like landscaping or fencing can cause damage to a pipeline or utility lines, always contact the 811 One-Call Center before engaging in any excavation, construction, farming or digging. Most states require 2 working days notice to the One-Call Center to allow the utility operators to mark their pipelines and utilities at your proposed digging site.

One easy FREE phone call to 811 starts the process to get your underground pipelines and utility lines marked.  Once lines have been marked for your project, you will know the approximate location of your pipelines and utility lines, and can safely dig.  More information regarding 811 can be found at www.call811.com.
